Darwin "Dee" Nelson Haas, age
65, of Maricopa, Arizona, went into the arms of his heavenly father on October 12,
2001 at
Desert Valley Care Center from complications of cancer. He is survived by his wife of almost
four years, Sandra Haas, two sons, David Haas, and James Haas, two sisters,
Diane Haas and Judy Lippold, his brother, Jim Haas, granddaughter, Jamie Haas
and Megan Haas, grandson, Dylan Haas, and countless dear friends. Dee will be
missed dearly and remembered in our hearts forever. Dee was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, June
22, 1936. He served in the armed services and was honorably discharged. He moved
to Phoenix and worked as an engineer for US West for 35 years. A wife, Margaret
and a brother Jack preceded him in death. Dee was a devoted Christian, a loving
husband, father, and grandfather. He touched all those that knew him. His
hobbies included: reading scripture, shooting firearms, golf and collecting
antique watches. Services will be held 11:00am, Friday, October 19th, 2001 at the Orangewood Church of the Nazarene, 2728 W. Orangewood Ave., Glendale. A burial will be held at Resthaven Park Cemetery, 6290 W. Northern Ave. A reception will follow. |

Services for Larry Hendrix and his
daughter Alicia of rural Garden City, Kansas will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at
First United Methodist Church in Garden City.
Hendrix, 47, a former Knox County extension agent, and his daughter, 13,
died Thursday morning at a Garden City hospital of injuries suffered in a
car-truck accident near Garden City. Hendrix was born in Lincoln and lived in
Nebraska until he moved to Garden City in September 1974 to work as an area
extension specialist for community development for the Kansas State University
Extension Service. He graduated from Lincoln Northeast High
School and received his bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in animal science
from the University of Nebraska. He
worked as an extension agent in Grant and was a part-time antique auctioneer.
Hendrix was a Vietnam-era U. S. Army veteran. Alicia Hendrix was born in Grant. She had finished seventh grade at Kenneth Henderson Junior
High School in Garden City, where she was a band member and played on the
girls’ basketball team. She was
in the 4-H Challengers Club and played in the bell choir at First United
Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held for
Alicia and her father at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the cemetery in Bloomfield. Larry Hendrix’s survivors include his
wife, Sharon, formerly of Bloomfield; two children, Mike and Stacy, both at
home; father, Royce of Idaho; brothers Robert of California, Richard of Alabama,
Phillip of Washington and Victor, address unknown; and a sister, Janice Devich
of Denver. |

Dakota, died on Saturday, September 5, 1998, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux
Falls, South Dakota, from complications of leukemia Idalee was born on December 20, 1937, at
Winner, South Dakota, the daughter of Axel and Alice (Nelson) Johnson.
She attended schools in Colome, South Dakota, and graduated from
Northeast High School in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1955. She was united in marriage to Arthur
“Bud” Kaiser on October 29, 1960 at Gregory, South Dakota.
She worked in the banking, real estate and insurance business most of her
life. She was a member of the
United Methodist Church in Winner, the United Methodist Women, the Winner VFW
Auxiliary and the Colome Legion Auxiliary.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed crosswords. She is survived by her husband, Arthur
“Bud” of Winner, SD; two daughters, Nancy Kewley and Lisa Kaiser, both of
Sioux Falls, SD; one son, Kevin Kaiser of Wichita, KS; three grandchildren, Anne
Feleciano, Shawn Kaiser and Sarah Kaiser, all of Wichita, KS; one sister, Anna
Kavan of Omaha, NE; four brothers, Harold Johnson of Moses Lake, WA, Raymond
Johnson of Michigan, Walter Johnson of Gregory, SD, and Richard Johnson of
Evansville, Indiana. She was
preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services for Idalee were held on Tuesday, September 8, 1998, at the United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Interment was in the Winner Cemetery. |

Services for Jacob Harvey Keim, 16, 3072
U, who died Sunday at a local hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace
Methodist Church, the Rev. Harold Sandell officiating. Deputy county Attorney Elmer Scheele
said doctors were puzzled over the cause of the boy’s death.
Scheele said he was found very ill, on the street Friday afternoon and
taken to the hospital, where he never regained consciousness. A member of Grace Methodist Church, he
had been president of the junior class and a member of Masque and Gavel at
Northeast High School. He was
president of the State Association of Student Councils and recently attended a
national student council meeting at St. Paul, Minn.
He had planned and directed special activities in high school and was
interested in dramatics, speech and photography. Surviving are his parents, Mr. And Mrs.
Jacob A. Keim; sisters, Mrs. Barbara Stewart and Phyllis Keim, both of Lincoln,
and his grandmothers, Mrs. Myrtle Fink of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Keim
of Tecumseh. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. |

Funeral services for Robin S. Mickle,
62, Lincoln Northeast High School principal since 1945, will be held 3 p.m.
Monday at First Methodist Church. Mr. Mickle, who lived at 1300 E, died Friday. Dr. Carl Davidson will officiate at the funeral services and
burial will be in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln. A member of the Lincoln city schools
system for 31 years, Mr. Mickle came to Lincoln in 1925, serving as principal of
University High and later Jackson High School until 1940.
In that year, he became a counselor in the new Northeast High School.
He was named principal of Northeast in 1945, succeeding Ed Loder. Before coming to Lincoln, Mr. Mickle
taught from 1919-1920 at the Crete High School and from 1921-1926 in the
Fairbury High School. Born at
Comstock, Mr. Mickle attended the Crete High School and graduated from Doane
College in 1919. In 1932 he
received his M.A. from the University of Nebraska.
He had lived all his life in this state and 40 years in Lincoln. A World War One veteran, he was a member of the First
Methodist Church, The Masons, Scottish Rite, Shrine, Bethany Lions Club and was
a past president of Northeast YMCA. He
was a member of the National Education Association; the Nebraska State education
Association and the Lincoln Teachers Association. Surviving are his wife, Loretta; who is
principal of Pershing Elementary School; sons, James of Stillwater, Okla., and
Ralph of Rapid City, S. D.; brothers, Guy of Nebraska City and Ted of Chicago;
sister, Mrs. Betty Herman of Washington, D. C.; and two grandchildren. |

| Elizabeth B. (“Betty”) Reeder, 79, of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia died
Monday, April 19, 1993. She was born December 26, 1913 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the
daughter of Lillian May and Earl Casswell Barker. She retired from the Lincoln Public School system after
35 years of teaching forensics, drama, and math. She was a member of the Order
of Eastern Star Columbia Chapter, Lincoln, Nebraska and the Smith Mountain Lake
Bridge Club. She is survived by her husband, Stanley W. Reeder; her daughters,
Dr. Enid L. Burrows, Professor of Mathematics, Plymouth State College, Plymouth,
N.H., and Dr. Jody D. Brown, Professor of English and Chair of the Fine Arts and
Religion Division, Ferrum College, Ferrum, Va; her son-in-law, Dr. Joseph G.
Brown, Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Mathematics and Physical
Science Division, Ferrum College, Ferrum, Va; her grandchildren Mr. J. S. Brown
and his wife, Amy, Jennifer J. Brown, Robin N. Burrows, and Lannette Elizabeth
Burrows; her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Barker; her
father-in-law, Mr. Harry H. Reeder; and former students and friends. She made
her final contribution to teaching by designating her body for medical research.

Harland V. Taylor, 86, a former Lincoln
Northeast School Principal died Saturday, September 7, 1991.
Taylor, 6800 A St., retired in 1970 after 21 years in the Lincoln school
system, 18 of them as principal at Northeast. Before being named assistant principal
at Northeast in 1953, Taylor was principal at Hastings High School.
He also held administrative positions at Broken Bow, York, Clearwater and
Elmwood. He taught at Dewitt. Taylor was born in Shubert and received
his bachelor’s degree from Peru State Teachers College and his master’s
degree in secondary education from the University of Nebraska.
He was a member of local, state and national teachers associations;
Nebraska School Masters Club; Lincoln Chamber of Commerce; and the Northeast
Lincoln YMCA board. He was a member
of the Capitol City Christian Church, where he was a former Bible schoolteacher
and elder and participant in the music program. Survivors include his wife, Verna M.;
son, Gaylen Taylor of Bellevue; Granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann Sheets of Lincoln,
Jennifer Jay Voegtli of Bellevue; and four great grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at

| Merlin H. Walters, 99, Lincoln, died Friday
(5/27/05). He was born to Harry Robb and Rose Anna Jordan Walters in rural Ute,
Iowa, on Sept. 22, 1905. He graduated from Ute High School (1924), and the
University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a bachelor of science (1931) and master
in science (1939) in education and school administration. He taught at
Scottsbluff High School and served as superintendent of Sunflower Consolidated
School and Garland Public School. In 1939, he moved to Lincoln, where he taught
math and science at Havelock High School. In 1942, he was transferred to Belmont
as principal, and he later served as principal of Havelock elementary and junior
high schools, Norwood Park, Meadow Lane, Dawes and Clinton elementary schools.
He was a lifetime member of Nebraska Parent Teachers Association, a member of
the Lincoln Education Association, the Nebraska State Education Association,
National Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa and Havelock Lions Club. He
worked through the Nebraska Legislature to establish a 12-month pay schedule for
teachers and helped with legislation establishing the State Teachers' Retirement
Program. After retirement, he was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, an
honorary member of the Lincoln Area Retired Teachers Association (which
presented him the Golden Apple Award) and a lifetime member of the Nebraska
Association of Retired School Personnel. He was made an admiral of the Nebraska
Navy on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Merlin became a member of First Christian Church when he moved to Lincoln in 1926, and since 1939 had been a member of Havelock Christian Church, where he served for many years as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and elder. For the last 10 years, he had been a member and daily participant of Calvert Senior Center. Merlin married Elizabeth Bell in 1933. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before her death in 1993. Survivors include daughters, sons-in-law, Mary and Lee Reed, Jean and John Dale; grandchildren, spouses, Susan and Richard Gifford, Scottsbluff, Marika and Timonthy Crosby, recently of Rangoon, Burma, Carol Reed-Klein and Robert Klein, Sterling, Mark Dale Thompson, Lawrence, Kan., Sarah Dale-Piersol and Pete Piersol, Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Joyce, Lucinda and Jonathan Gifford, Aiva, Nathyn, Esther and Sarah Crosby, Pierce and Chase Thompson, Ellie Piersol. Other survivors include brother, Harold Walters, Santa Rosa, Calif., sisters-in-law, brother-in-law: Elsie and Jim Bishop, Lettie Nilsson, all of Lincoln, Alice Bell, Lakewood, N.J., 11 nephews; 14 nieces; two nephews-in-law; one niece-in-law; their spouses and children, and many other relatives and friends. Michael and Faith, Cleveland, Ohio, Antonio "Tony," Lincoln;
daughters, sons-in-law, Sylvia and Doug Higel, Clatonia, Consuelo
"Connie" Hejl, Spirit Lake, Iowa, Michelle and Bill Cita, Waverly,
Deanna Yznaga, Lincoln; five grandchildren; sisters, brothers-in-law, Vivian and
Arnold Klein, Portland, Ore., Irene and Hank Roth, Hastings, Minn., Gladys and
